Hi,
something is fundamentally wrong with my Appetizer-install. After I installed it and imported my start-menu-items, reconfigured a bit it worked ok. But after I shut Windows (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) down, when I start Appetizer the next time it's totally empty and I have to re-import and reconfigure everything. Can't work as designed :-)
What is wrong?
Titus

Even when I close Appetizer and restart it again (without shutting Windows down) it loses its information and starts at 0.
In this way the utilitily is certainly not usable.
Is there any help with this available?

Hi, I'm not sure why it's doing that. I haven't tested it much with Vista but it seems to work for most people.

Can you have a look at the Settings.xml and FolderItems.xml files in the Data/Settings folder of the Appetizer installation folder? In particular, do the paths in FolderItems.xml seem correct to you? Feel free to copy and paste their contents here so that I can check if there's anything wrong.

Yeah, that's the reason. There is NO Settings-folder under the Data-Folder in the Appetizer-Install-Dir. And that's because of Vista preventing me creating such folders in a "C:\Programs\..."-directory. At least if I do not run the application with Admin-rights (which should be the normal case). Under Vista all application-data should go into a "...\Users\\Appdata\Appetizer\Settings"-Folder.
So if there is no Settings-folder where the data can be stored, it can't find any data during the next start. That sounds logical.
So how can I ask Appetizer to use the right place for the Settings-folder under Vista?

Yes, that makes sense. By default, Appetizer is configured to save its settings in the installation folder, as it was initially meant to be run from a USB stick. However, you can change that and make it save its settings in Users\Appdata - to do so, follow these instructions:

1. Right-click on the Appetizer shortcut and select Properties
2. Open the "shortcut" tab (or equivalent in Vista)
3. In the target field, append "/u" (without the quotes) at the end of the command line
4. Click OK and launch Appetizer

If it's working properly, it should now save its settings in the user folder. I think I'm going to make this the default in the next version to avoid any issues. Thanks for letting me know about it!

Ok, that's it. Works without problems now. Thanks a lot.
